<AI1> 1. Proposed Toucan Crossing on Sergeant Simon Valentine Way, Bedworth.
Councillor Jan Matecki, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning, received a report seeking approval for the introduction of a toucan crossing facility on Sergeant Simon Valentine Way, Bedworth. Councillor Matecki noted the objections detailed in the report.
Councillor Mrs Michele Kondakor, of Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council, addressed the Portfolio Holder expressing her concerns about the toucan crossing and the connection to the local cycle network infrastructure, referring to her objection within the report. Councillor Mrs Kondakor utilised maps of the local area to explain the nuances of her objection.
In making his decision, Councillor Matecki noted that the decision being made was regarding the toucan crossing, not the adjoining cycling network infrastructure, and its introduction would provide a level of future-proofing since the crossing was an integral part of a wider plan for the area. He also noted that the funding secured for this scheme would need to be used by March 2025 or it would be forfeited. He suggested that Councillor Mrs Kondakor lobby local decision-makers at the borough council and her MP regarding funding and completion of the cycling infrastructure in the area.
Resolved that the portfolio holder for transport and planning notes the objections received and approves the introduction of a toucan crossing facility in accordance with the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1884, section 23 and the shared use pedestrian/cycle track under sections 65 Highways Act 1980.
