As our Houlton community continues to grow, our roads are becoming busier, particularly at peak times around St Gabriel's Primary School. As the roads remain unadopted, developers are unable to install pedestrian crossing points as they are expected to build roads to the exact specifications in the initial plans from many years ago. It is now my belief that the traffic issues at the start and the end of the school day require the county council and developers to work together to find a solution to this problem - in a way that will not delay the adoption of any road by the county council.
Each day, hundreds of cars descend on Houlton Way outside the school making crossing for primary-aged children incredibly difficult. The 96 bus also currently uses this route adding yet another danger to the road.
In addition to this, the levels of traffic that use the Link Road to move between Rugby and DIRFT and the A5/M1 means that crossing Dollman Road can also be incredibly challenging.
I would like to see the council work with developers, the police
and the school to find practical ways to ensure pedestrians, and
particularly children, can cross Houlton Way and Dollman Road
safely.
